This is my rendition of the Allman Brothers "Little Martha". I tuned my banjo down 1.5 steps or the equivalent of 3 frets to the key of E. When tuned this way, you're fingers are playing as though you are still in the standard G tuning, but you're ears are 'hearing' the key of E, because ALL strings have been tuned downward in pitch to match an open E chord. I listened to a You Tubed video of Duane Allman playing the tune as it was done on his first recording of this great tune... and then did what I had to do to make the melody work on the 5-string banjo in Scruggs style. $3.00 |
