It also has a passing chord here and there which contributes to the smoothness of sound.

It definitely is the beginning of something beyond straight 1,4,5 chord progressions.

The whole arrangement is Scruggs style and is not really all that difficult, if you're comfortable in your basic Scruggs technique,

It does run up the neck a couple of times...but nothing drastic.

Overall a moderately challenng arrangement in the Key of G.
